Charlene Hoch

Instructor

Charlene first became interested in dog training while in college, and was especially intrigued by learning theories. She has been working with dogs for more than 25 years and fell in love with working breeds after beginning to train her first Rottweiler.

She has trained dogs in tracking, obedience, handler protection, rally, agility, nose work, and conformation. She has titles on several of her dogs in CGC, rally, agility, nose work, and tricks, and has also started competing in Fast CAT.

Charlene has had several Rottweilers, a Formosan Mountain Dog (Taiwan Dog), a Pumi, and a Border Collie. She’s learned a lot from all the different breeds—from the most confident Rotty to a terrified street dog.

She describes the most rewarding training experiences as having a dog being able to take down a bad guy to protect her and getting her fearful street dog to master titles in agility. She’s excited to bring her love of training to her classes.

I believe that positive training— figuring out what your dog finds reinforcing—has the best results. I want both handlers and dogs to have fun in my classes. If a dog is having fun, it’s going to have a better result! I start simple as a team learns the behaviors, then increase difficulty. I want the handler to see improvements and feel successful in continuing the training at home and throughout the dogs life, not just in class.
