Disc Dog Classes
Disc dog, also known as “Frisbee dog,” involves a handler and their dog performing a series of tricks and catching flying discs. The objective is for the dog to catch the discs thrown by the handler in various ways, showcasing agility, speed, and coordination.
The sport has gained popularity worldwide and emphasizes the bond between a handler and their dog, as well as the dog’s natural abilities in catching and retrieving objects.
Competitions typically consist of two main events: freestyle and distance/accuracy. In freestyle, teams perform choreographed routines set to music, highlighting the dog’s athleticism and the handler’s skill in throwing and directing the discs. Distance/accuracy events involve throwing discs for the dog to catch over longer distances, with points awarded based on accuracy and distance.
Disc Dog Foundation
In this 6-week class, you’ll learn foundational flatwork skills, basic throws and accuracy drills, a killer retrieve to hand, super speedy disc drops and recalls, and how to teach your dog to safely catch both rollers and flying discs. By the end of the 6 weeks, teams will be ready to compete in Toss & Fetch League.
This class is great for a team just starting out in disc, or for anyone who wants to improve their existing toss and fetch skills (e.g. slow recall, dropping early, not catching the disc). It is geared towards dogs or puppies over 6 months that already have a desire to chase, grab, or play with toys, and puppies are welcome!
✅ Prerequisite: None but a Manners class is helpful.
Disc Dog League
Join the Rainier Disc Dog Team in the worldwide K9 Frisbee Toss & Fetch League for a 5-week event that happens multiple times a year. Every week, each dog and handler team get two one-minute or 90-second rounds scored to compete against teams worldwide over five weeks of play.
